Burgess Meredith plays Pulitzer Prize winner Ernie Pyle, a war correspondent who joins a company on the front lines during World War II as they face a series of missions against Nazis in Italy. Robert Mitchum co-stars as a grizzled commanding officer in one of his first starring roles.
